The MC8A Acoustic Guitar Strap By Levy’s

Posted by

I’ve got a confession; I love buying old no-name acoustics. Every acoustic and instrument for that matter has its own unique voice, a story to share with the world. Most acoustics were not designed for the standing musician. Sure you can drill a strap button in the body, but wait take a drill to that 50 year old hunk of wood? No I can’t! …actually you shouldn’t I always recommend you take an acoustic to a luthier to have a strap button added, but well Levy’s designed a way to cross this bridge without even getting your shoes wet, the MC8A strap.

The MC8A is a 2” wide cotton guitar strap with a suede end pin holder on one end and what makes the strap unique is the 15” long adjustable loop on the other end made of bullet proof ⅜” cotton webbing. The design works similar to a slipknot. Now I’ve seen a few clips and button accessories out there and well I think Elvis just tied a piece of string around his headstock, but clips and buttons break and knots come loose! The MC8A’s end is sewn on and I feel is the only fool proof way to not lose your acoustic to the fight against gravity.

The suede end had no problem fitting over regular end pins or even acoustic/electric input jacks. Here’s a picture of the suede end attached to my Walden D710-CE.

The ⅜” cotton webbing can sit on top of your strings or under them if you attach the strap between string changes. The only reason I left it on above is because I wanted to try the MC8A out on multiple acoustics. It didn’t affect the tuning in anyway shape or form.

Here is a shot of the backside as it loops around your headstock. The slipknot design is held place by gravity. It is cotton so there is no chance of it scratching your finish or leaving any residue.

The strap is fully adjustable and can be as short as 45” or as long as 70” It comes in 2 colors brown or black (the color shown in my review pictures) The strap can accommodate just about any neck profile. It is marketed for acoustic guitars and dobros, but I could see it easily working on mandolins, ukuleles, banjos really just about any stringed instrument with a headstock. Overall it’s a durable strap with a unique design to answer the strapping question that puzzled guitarists for decades.
